Shaikh Nasser team move into quarters

SHAIKH Nasser bin Hamad team dominated the Late Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al Khalifa Ramadan Football Tournament, being held at Riffa Club's gym in Al Hunainiya.

On the first day of this annual tournament, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad team registered two consecutive victories to lead Group 'A' with six points from two matches and secure their place in the quarter-finals.

First they defeated Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla team 3-0 with goals from Fawaz Bushager, Ahmed Al Khayyat and Ahmed Antar.

Later they picked up a hard-fought 3-2 win against Shaikh Fahad bin Ebrahim team, with Fawaz Ahmed, Sadeq Marhoon and Al Khayyat being on target for the victors.

In the same group, Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa defeated Shaikh Fahad bin Ebrahim team 3-0, thanks to goals from Bashar Abdulla, Ali Habib and Hussain Kazerooni.

Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad team secured their berth in the competition's last eight from Group 'B' as Hassan Abdulaziz scored the all-important goal in their 1-0 victory over Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman team.

Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad team, one of the strong contenders in the championship, had kick-started their title bid losing 2-4 to Shaikh Khalifa bin Rashid team in a highly-competitive encounter.

Rashid Jamal and Hamad Al Rumaihi fired two goals apiece for the winners, while Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad goals were scored by Mohammed Raja and Mustafa Abdullatif.

Also in Group 'B', Shaikh Khalifa bin Rashid team registered their second successive win, beating Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman team 1-0, with Mohammed Saleh Sanad scoring the winner.

Meanwhile, the quarter-finals are scheduled to commence tonight with four matches on the cards.

In the first game, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad team will meet Group 'D' runners-up, while Shaikh Khalifa bin Rashid team face the second-placed team in Group 'C'.

The remaining two matches will see Group 'D' winners play against Shaikh Isa bin Abdula team and Group 'C' first-placers meet Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Twelve teams are in the fray for this year's Late Shaikh Faisal bin Hamad Al Khalifa Ramadan Football Tournament, organised by Riffa Club and under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
