Noor Al Hadi and Asry reach final

ASRY and Noor Al Hadi will face off in the final of the Batelco Ramadan Football Tournament, being held at the Batelco Staff Centre grounds in Al Hamala.

In two nail-biting semi-final clashes, Noor Al Hadi sent defending champions Al Zelzal crashing out with a 3-2 victory, setting up their title showdown against Asry, who eased past Nomas 4-0.

East Riffa Club skipper Faisal Budahoom was the hero in Noor Al Hadi's surprising victory over last year's winners Al Zelzal, scoring one goal and setting up the other two.

After a goalless first-half, excitement mounted early in the second-half as both teams came up with a string of chances.

Eventually it was Noor Al Hadi who took the lead in the 51st minute through Ahmed Mohammed Jassim header.

Al Zelzal pushed forward while looking for an equaliser, but Budahoom put an end to their comeback scoring the second in the 71st minute in spectacular fashion.

Going down 0-2, Al Zelzal went all out hoping to pull a goal back. However, they conceded a third goal just four minutes later when Abbas Abdulamir finished off a solo effort with a well-placed shot from inside the penalty area.

Despite the three-goal deficit, Al Zelzal continued to fight and they were rewarded with two quick goals in injury time by duo strikers Ahmed Al Khayyat and Isa Bahram.

Noor Al Hadi will now play in the final, scheduled for Saturday, against Asry who posted an emphatic win over Group 'A' winners Nomas earlier in the day.

Asry took firm control on most of the proceedings and they opened the scoring after nine minutes through Mansoor Mohammed.

Nomas had a golden opportunity to come back into the game in the 15th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Mohammed Makki, however, failed to capitalise on the kick as Asry goalkeeper Hussain Marhoon made a good save to keep his side in the lead.

Asry took advantage of Nomas' dip in morale to stretch their advantage to 2-0 through dangerous striker Sayed Ali Isa in the 34th minute. It became 3-0 for Asry in the 69th minute when Mustafa Yaqoub fired from long range, and the same player hit the fourth with a similar effort.
