ONE of Bahrain's most popular restaurateurs and social workers, Vithal Shetty, will leave the country after 35 years.
Mr Shetty has retired and will return to India after running several restaurants in Bahrain including, Central CafŽ, Shringar, Parijatha, Woodlands and Chef's Corner.
He first arrived in 1977 to work for Cable and Wireless, which is now known as Batelco. Mr Shetty, who was also one of the founding members of Bahrain Kannada Sangha, said Bahrain will always be his home.
"I am very sad to leave Bahrain as it has been our dear home away from home. It is a beautiful country and people have been very cordial and supportive. I thank from the bottom of my heart, everyone who helped me to reach where I am," he said.
"Now I will devote my retirement life to society when I go back to my home town Mangalore."
The father-of-two is set to depart with his wife Yashodha.
