THE Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife began a programme to boost local fish supplies this year.

Commission director Dr Abdulredha Jassim Shams said the programme is part of a campaign launched by His Majesty King Hamad's Personal Representative and commission president Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The operation covers 18 locations including coral reefs on the eastern and northern coasts. The launch of small fish populations comprises 65,000 small hammour, 100,000 subaiti and 10,000 safi fish of various sizes.
