Unrest 'killing' case verdict is delayed

JUDGES postponed a verdict in the case of a police lieutenant charged with accidentally killing an anti-government protester during the height of last year's unrest.

The Bahraini faces manslaughter charges after allegedly shooting Hani Abdulaziz Goma, 32, three times with a bird shot at a building under construction in Khamis on March 9.

Defence lawyer Abdulrahman Al Khashram earlier argued that evidence presented by the Interior Ministry showed that his client only fired two shots on the day Mr Goma died, which contradicts a medical examiner's report.

The verdict was due to be issued yesterday by the High Criminal Court, but the trial was adjourned until Monday.
