MANAMA: A 23-year-old motorcyclist died early yesterday morning after his vehicle slipped on a Bahrain highway due to the dusty weather, reports ANIQA HAIDER. BDF soldier Mohammed Ali Mandoos was riding on the Shaikh Salman highway in East Riffa at about 3.30am when his motorcycle slipped due to the dust on the road. The motorcycle overturned several times before coming to a halt. Mr Mandoos died in the BDF Hospital's intensive care unit where he was taken with severe head injuries and a pelvis fracture. A thick dust haze, accompanied by high velocity winds, enveloped Bahrain for most of yesterday, sparking a Coastguard warning to seafarers and fishermen not to venture out into the sea.
The local weather office predicted the weather would remain unstable until today with wind speeds reaching 27 knots at times. The unsettled weather, however, brought down the temperature considerably, with the maximum being reported at 35 degrees C. Though visibility at Bahrain International Airport was also considerably reduced, no incoming or outgoing flights were affected.
