AMH screens residents for cancer

TWO final screenings for colon cancer will be held next week and at the start of June, as part of an American Mission Hospital (AMH) programme.

They will be held at Jidhafs Social Centre on May 27 to 30 and Riffa Social Centre from June 3 to 6.

It follows a series of tests that were held at health centres across Bahrain for 750 patients, with 150 patients being treated at each centre.

The tests start with a free stool analysis, followed by a consultation with a gastroenterologist and a colonoscopy which will all be free if needed.

More than 300 samples have been collected from the first two screenings held in Hamad Town and Isa Town, with several cases being referred for further examination, said AMH fundraising and community senior manager Bahnaz Abbas.

The third test was held at Ibn Khuldoon Social Centre, which was attended by representatives from the Human Rights and Social Development Ministry and AMH.

Sponsors of the programme include BMI Bank, ABC and Bahrain National Gas Company, Roche, Gulf Daily News, Akhbar Al Khaleej and Chevron, YK Almoayyed and KDD, Mohamed Fakhro, Trafco, Coca Cola, Lays and Evian.
