Saturday's letters page reached an all-time low. Instead of a worthwhile venue for lively and informed debate it has become a diary for personal, bitter, and, I'm afraid, smug, remarks. Um Ali, whom I have always considered to be a polite lady, dedicated to the well-being of Bahrain - do you really mean what you say "If I travel to the UK in the near future, I will most definitely try it out'.

What? Insulting heads of state. Is that what you would do in your own country? If not, why do it in someone else's. Her comments have truly saddened me.
