SALMANIYA Medical Complex Accident and Emergency department chief resident and Bahrain Medical Society board member Dr P V Cheriyan is one of the two people from Bahrain who are among the five named as outstanding global personalities for the year.
The honour for Dr Cheriyan came during the eighth biennial conference of the World Malayalee Council (WMC) conference in Cologne, Germany.
Dr Cheriyan was honoured for his services as a physician as well as contributions to the community for more than three decades.
He is a veteran member of the Indian community in Bahrain and is also the chairman of the Co-ordination Committee of Indian Associations.
He has also been named as the global vice-chairman of the WMC for a two-year term.
Freelance journalist and publisher and international co-ordinator of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin Sunny Kulathakal was also honoured during the event.
Mr Kulathakal is also the chief executive of Sunliz Publications, a Bahrain-based company, and editor of Gulf Who Is Who.
Others honoured are biotech scientist from the US Dr Sunny Luke; Khaleej Times, Dubai business editor Issac John and A L Group, Ajman, chief executive Alex Koshy.
