AN evening of culture and dance to showcase the heritage of India's south-western state of Karnataka is being held this weekend.
Kannada Sangha will be organising its annual cultural extravaganza Vasanthotsava 2012 and also introduce its new executive committee headed by president B Rajkumar.
The event will be held at the Bahrain Cultural Hall, near the Bahrain National Museum, on Friday starting at 6pm.
Prominent religious leader Bhimeshwar Joshi will be specially flown in to be the chief guest of the evening.
Mr Joshi is head of the committee that runs the Annapurneshwari Temple in the holy city of Hornadu in Karnataka.
The evening will feature programmes which will showcase the rich culture and heritage of Karnataka.
One of the main attractions will be a special Bharathanatyam, Kathak and Kuchipudi dance performances by Surya N Rao and Prathama Prasad Rao. The couple run the famous Mahamaya Dance and Art School in Karnataka and have performed all over the world.
Another artist to be flown in from Karnataka for this programme is humorist and comedian Ramesh Babu.
"These artists are much respected and reputed in their fields and I'm sure they will serve up a classical treat to our audience of all ages and tastes," said Mr Rajkumar.
Apart from performances by visiting artists, amateur performers from the Sangha are also gearing up to showcase their rich and diverse talents.
"We hope to present an enjoyable and unforgettable evening to all our members and their families and friends, and all are welcome," added Mr Rajkumar.
