THE impact of contemporary art practices on classical drawing was explored at an art exhibition last night at World Beat Fitness CafŽ, Janabiya.

The exhibition, Extinction, is a selection of drawings by award-winning Bahraini artist Mariam Haji Al Janahi.

Ms Al Janahi is interested in exploring the relationship between the impacts of contemporary art practices on classical drawing and is curious as to whether it is contributing to the extinction of drawing.

In her work, she plays with the idea of a hyper-realistic drawing and has the ability to record and archive photographs in a drawing form.

She has a degree in Fine Art and has been involved in festivals and biennials, and has given lectures in schools, universities and public teaching workshops in Bahrain.

The exhibition will continue until May 31 and the cafŽ is open from 8am to 1pm, and 4pm to 8pm.
