FAHAD Khalaf edged Ali Kabat 9-8 in the top-of-the-second-round clash in the Nine-ball Banagas Billiards Championship, being held at the Golden Triangle's Gym near the Exhibition Road.
Two of the tournament's contenders faced off on the third day in the second round, featuring the best 32 cueists who qualified from a field of 80 players in the first round of the competition.
It was the second win for Khalaf, who eased past Abdulrahman Rashid 9-1 earlier in the day, while Kabat picked up victories over Rashid (9-2) and Omar Abdulrahman (9-3).
The results saw Khalaf top Group 'E' with a 100 per cent win record. He was followed by Kabat in second place. Both cueists will now play in the last-16 round, to be played in knock-out format.
In the other matches, Hussain Salman topped Group 'F' and advanced into the competition's last 16 along with group runner up Abdulla Isa. Salman won his most recent games against Rashid Buekri and Abdulla Buchiri 9-3 and 9-5, respectively.
