SOCIAL and economic aspects of fisheries was the highlight of a regional workshop that started in Bahrain yesterday.
The three-day event focused on fisheries in the Regional Commission for Fisheries region (RECOFI) and was organised by General Directorate for Protection of Marine Resources and Cairo-based Food and Agricultural Organisation Regional Office for the Near East.
It gathered regional and local experts and was opened by the directorate's director general Jassim Al Qaseer.
During the workshop, participants spoke on fisheries management and managing people's social and economic behaviours with regards to the exploitation of fishery resources.
The experts are expected to outline an integrated statistics and knowledge-based database for the purpose of socio-economic assessment in the RECOFI region.
