This refers to 'Boring Canard' by Jim from Canada (GDN, April 17).
"And the Nobel prize for Economic and Political Wizardry goes toooo; Jiiiim from Canadaaa. Hooray". And then he woke up!!
But seriously, I am pleased to note from Jim's letter that he does not want to 'vote with his feet' as I had suggested, because he 'likes it here', which has not been clear from his daily spews of negativity. But as long as he likes it here, then that is good, and we can't really be that bad.
He also says that his 'contribution and importance has been highlighted by the leadership', and that is good too. But this is the same leadership he has been inciting readers to insult, as a mark of compliance with his understanding of democracy. I may have misunderstood his intentions, and apologise if that is the case.
I think he should respect his host country and its leadership just like he would, and should, expect foreigners to respect his country and leadership, in adherence to the natives' saying; Ya Ghareeb, Kun Adeeb (O, stranger, behave)!
