Smart Card dilemma

THIS is with reference to our employees who have been unable to renew their driving licences due to non-availability of Smart Card appointment as their CPR cards have expired.

It has been more than six months and they are still not able to get an appointment. They are not able to even drive. What if they drive without a licence and are fined? I have been to the Labour Ministry but no-one has the answer. Moreover, the behaviour of people there, especially ladies, is extremely rude and abusive. I request the ministry to respond so that all the people facing similar problems could get a solution.

A CENTRAL Informatics Organisation (CIO) media and public relations spokesman said: "First, about the Sitra mall branch appointments for foreign labourers. It's under a lot of pressure because of the large number of requests. Smart Card appointments are available at 8.30am and 2.30pm on ID card website (www.smartcard.gov.bh).

"Secondly, the branch accepted requests for foreign labourers who have completed their requests at the LMRA. They have to attach LMRA form to get Smart Cards.

"Thirdly, the Isa town and Muharraq branches are specialised for foreign labourers' families and housemaids. Appointments are available during the day on the same website.

"Fourthly, if you have any comments or complaints against on any of our employees please meet the supervisor or branch head immediately to take action.

"The CIO welcomes all comments to provide better services."
